Around thirty minutes south of Bastia, Vescovato is where Hôtel Résidence A Torra is located. Set on the first hills of the Casinca, the village offers a lovely glimpse of authentic Haute-Corse: stone lanes, neighbouring villages, local produce and landscapes between sea and mountains.
Vescovato, the former village of the bishops
Its name tells its story: Vescovato means “the bishopric”. In the Middle Ages, the bishops of Mariana settled here after the town on the plain was abandoned. The village has kept a rich past and a strong character.
Take time to stroll through its sloping lanes, between tall stone houses and shady squares. The Baroque church of Saint-Martin stands in the heart of the village.
The Casinca, between the Golo and the Fium’Altu
The Casinca is a small hilly area between two rivers, the Golo to the north and the Fium’Altu to the south. Its villages, such as Venzolasca, Loreto-di-Casinca, Penta-di-Casinca and Castellare-di-Casinca, cling to the hillsides overlooking the eastern plain and the sea.

Mariana and La Canonica, close by
North of the Casinca, near the airport, the Mariana site recalls the ancient Roman town founded by Marius. Here you can see La Canonica, a 12th-century Romanesque cathedral, and the church of San Parteo, two major landmarks of Corsican heritage.
The flavours of the Casinca

This is the Casinca’s great asset: within minutes, you go from the beaches of the east coast to mountain roads. The small roads and paths around the villages are perfect for walking, among chestnut and olive trees.
